Food Allergies and Allergens
The health, safety and wellbeing of all our pupils is of the utmost importance. We are committed to ensuring that children living with food allergies are supported, included and kept safe throughout the school day.
Following the introduction of Benedict’s Law, schools in England are required to follow strengthened guidance on allergy safety from September 2026. These measures aim to reduce the risk of allergic reactions and ensure that schools are prepared to respond to allergy emergencies.
Our approach to allergy safety includes:
-
Maintaining a dedicated school allergy safety policy.
-
Providing staff with allergy awareness and emergency response training.
-
Ensuring appropriate emergency procedures and access to spare adrenaline auto-injectors for emergency use.
-
Working with parents and carers to maintain individual healthcare and allergy action plans for pupils with allergies.
-
Taking appropriate precautions to minimise exposure to known allergens and reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
What Parents and Carers Need to Know
We ask all parents and carers to:
-
Inform the school of any diagnosed food allergies, intolerances or relevant dietary requirements.
-
Ensure that the school is informed immediately of any changes to your child’s allergy or medical needs.
-
Provide any prescribed medication and up-to-date medical information as agreed with the school.
-
Check the ingredients of food brought into school at snack/lunchtime and talk to your children about not sharing food with other children in the dining hall.
-
Follow any specific guidance provided by the school to help protect pupils with known allergies.
We will continue to work closely with our catering team to ensure that food allergies are managed appropriately. Where food is prepared and provided by the school, allergen information will be managed in accordance with food safety laws.
Allergens are identified using 6 different coloured lanyards as shown below:

If you have any questions or concerns about allergies, please contact the school office.
