Preparation for school
π 1. Talk About What to Expect
Explain what school is like — new friends, fun activities, story time, and kind teachers. Knowing what will happen helps children feel confident.
π 2. Practise Morning Routines
Do a few “school-day practice runs” — waking up, getting dressed, eating breakfast, and putting on shoes. Routines make the first weeks much smoother.
π 3. Build Independence Skills
Encourage small skills such as:
-
Putting on their coat
-
Opening lunchboxes
-
Using the toilet on their own
-
Tidying up toys
Little independence boosts confidence at school.
π 4. Focus on Positive Feelings
Talk about the exciting parts of school — playing, learning, making friends. Share your own positive stories. Calm parents often mean calm children.
π€ 5. Practise Social Skills
Play turn-taking games, practise sharing, and rehearse friendly phrases like “Can I play?” These small skills help children settle into their new class.
