Black History Month 2026

Fulbridge Academy is celebrating Black History Month.

This month, the children have been learning about the incredible accomplishments and history-making achievements of the global Black community.
At Fulbridge we have focused on the lives of two remarkable pioneers who broke barriers, showed immense bravery, and changed the course of human history:
Matthew Henson (1866 – 1955) - The Legendary Polar Explorer
Matthew spent over 20 years exploring the Arctic and is widely believed to be the first human to reach the North Pole in 1909! The children loved learning how he mastered the Inuit language and perfected the art of driving dog sleds. His courage and resilience is an inspiration to us all.
Katherine Johnson (1918 – 2020) - The Brilliant NASA Mathematician
Known as a brilliant "human computer," Katherine’s flawless calculations helped astronauts reach the Moon during the historic 1969 Apollo 11 mission. She overcame severe segregation to pave the way for women and people of colour in STEM. Fun fact: Astronaut John Glenn trusted her so much, he refused to fly until she personally hand-checked the machine's math!
Through Henson’s bravery and Johnson’s brilliant mind, the children have seen firsthand how perseverance and passion can truly change the world.
